If your child is showing you their new loose baby tooth, they’re likely excited and maybe even a little nervous. As a parent, you’re probably nervous as well, especially if this is the first time you’ve dealt with a loose tooth. Well, our dentist, Dr. Eudoro Vallejo, is happy to help you deal with the loose tooth and even pull it properly out of the mouth. First, you should keep a cool and calm manner. It’s best not to show your child how nervous you are. Then, you can do the following things:
-Let your child wiggle their tooth often. The more they wiggle, the easier it’ll be to pull the tooth. Once the tooth can move back and forth and side to side without pain, the tooth is ready to come out.
-Have your child bite into tough, hard foods. When they do so, the tooth might just fall out on its own without your child even noticing! But keep a close eye on your child’s tooth. You don’t want your child to swallow it!
-When you need to manually pull the tooth, it’s best to do so with a tissue. Lay the tissue over your pointer finger and thumb and grasp the tooth. When you’re ready, pull the tooth with a gentle tug. It should pop right out of place. If it doesn’t or if it is painful for your child, it’s best to wait a few days to try again.
